Toolbar Should Show Current Sync Status
Shaxpir continuously saves everything you write on your local hard drive. Then in the background, it periodically synchronizes those changes to the cloud. When you're offline, everything is saved to disk, but the background process waits until you have an internet connection before the next sync.
Right now, it's impossible for a user to see the synchronization status, or to know how when the most recent sync occurred.
A simple toolbar icon could show the user the current sync status, and a user hovering over that icon could see the amount of time elapsed since the last successful sync.
14 votesThis feature was completed in Shaxpir 4.0 and released on March 14, 2017. The main toolbar now contains a “Sync Status” button which shows a popover bubble with information about the current data-synchronization status.
Enjoy!

On the tree, Chapter and scenes shouldn't be directly under each other...Scenes should be off-set or I'm I doing it wrong?
On the tree, Chapter and scenes shouldn't be directly under each other...Scenes should be off-set or I'm I doing it wrong?
Should be a tree type structure
1 voteThis feature has actually been part of Shaxpir since day 1.
You can use drag-and-drop to rearrange your parts, chapters, and scenes into whatever hierarchy you like.
Just give it a try, and let me know if you need any help!

Export/Backup to Word (or at least RTF)
First off, the app design is beautiful. I'd very much like to use it as my primary novel writing environment - but I can't until it offers an "Export to [Word/RTF]" option, ideally one that compiles the manuscript into a single document.
I appreciate that Shaxpir is backup up my files to the Cloud, but when we're talking about a 100K+ word novel, I'm not going to be comfortable with that being the only copy. I need to back it up on my USB drive, through Dropbox, and probably a couple of other places as well, in a format that…

I don't know about anybody else but I could really use a darker background at times.
I write mostly night hours. After a long day. Typing for hours on a white surface hurts the eyes. A darker tone background like a violet eases the fatigue. Could there be a night mode? That would really help.

Recover Older Versions Of Project
I would like to include offline versions that have been overwritten. This just happened:
PC: wrote 1400 words online
Macbook: opened online to pick up 1400 words
Macbook: wrote 1600 words offline. Did not go back online.
PC: opened Shaxpir online - only 1400 words. Of course there is, I didn't upload the 1600 offline words.
Macbook: open Shaxpir so the 1600 offline words upload. Nothing. There are only 1400 words there.
PC: still only 1400 words.Because I opened my PC version AFTER the offline words were written, the program thought that was the latest version and so overwrote…

Scenes should be part of chapters.
The structure of a book is logically broken down by chapters, and then scenes within a chapter. But when I add a scene, it goes into "Notes". Each Scene should be able to be included in a Chapter, and reorganized as necessary, IMO (moved to other chapters, reorganized, etc).
20 votesWe changed this behavior in Shaxpir 3.0, released on October 26, 2016. Under the new system, scenes are now nested within chapters, exactly as suggested in this post.

"Thing" needs a better definition or explanation as to what it is
I'm not at all sure what a "thing" is, or how it differs from an "idea". A "thing" feels and sounds like a physical object, where I think that what is needed is a hierarchy of:
- Major Concept
- Ideas
- Points
- items or things
Need to have better ability to outline the layout of a chapter or article for well thought out development.
1 voteOriginally, during the Shaxpir 1.0 Beta, the idea of a “Thing” was to give you a place to write notes about the artifacts your characters might interact with throughout your story: magic wands, spaceships, briefcases, bicycles, etc.
But we heard this confusion from many of our users and decided to revamp the content model to eliminate the confusion.
When we released Shaxpir 2.0 (on February 21, 2016), we simplified the content model, eliminating the concept of a “Thing” from the Shaxpir notebook.
The new model includes three default categories for content in your notebook: Character, Place, and Theme.
But it also allows you to create your own categories, so you can organize your notebook however you like, rather than fitting into a restrictive model.

Ability to turn "heading" formatting on and off
So far, I'm able to set "heading formatting" for a text entry (I was inserting a new "thing"). However, I see no way to turn that back off again, if I don't need heading formatting, or applied it in error.

IDEAS currentlyt seems to be too specific, where it feels like it should be more general
I write from the broad idea to the specifics, but could easily work in the opposite direction, if I had the idea for a stunning paragraph that might develop into a story. That's how IDEAS feels like it should work to me, from the HOME page.
While at HOME, I can add a new concept or theme (broad), but the remainder of the choices are scene, character, place, and thing (there's THING, again!!), which are quite specific.
I don't see, for instance, the ability to add a (broad) idea for a book or article. My only other option is to…
1 voteOriginally, during the Shaxpir 1.0 Beta, we had a limited set of six categories for all notes & ideas: Character, Concept, Place, Scene, Theme, and Thing.
Our beta users gave us lots of great feedback regarding this design, and overwhelming told us that this taxonomy was too restrictive.
So, when we released Shaxpir 2.0 (on February 21, 2016), we simplified the content model, limiting the built-in categories to just Character, Place, and Theme, while at the same time giving users to ability to define their own categories alongside the default ones.

Show Version History
Every piece of content (chapters, characters, scenes, etc) has a version history saved on your local disk and backed up in the cloud. Every time you start a new writing session, Shaxpir creates a new entry in the version history for each document you edit. But in the current version of Shaxpir, you can't see those historical versions. You can only see the current version.
Users should be able to view the version history of any document, highlighting changes between any two snapshots, and optionally reverting the current snapshot to some previously-saved state.
